What we have implemented
- Semantic structure — Proper landmarks, one H1 per page, and a heading hierarchy that does not skip levels.
- Skip link — A skip-to-content link is the first focusable element on every page.
- Keyboard operation — Every interactive element — navigation panels, the mobile menu, accordions, forms — is reachable and operable by keyboard alone.
- Visible focus — A high-contrast focus ring on every focusable element, never removed.
- Colour contrast — Text and interface colours are chosen to meet or exceed AA contrast ratios.
- Accessible forms — Every field has a persistent visible label, hints are linked with aria-describedby, and errors are announced and associated with their field.
- Accordions — FAQ sections use native disclosure elements, so they work with assistive technology without custom scripting.
- Reduced motion — Animation and smooth scrolling are disabled when the operating system requests reduced motion.
- Descriptive links — Link text describes its destination. There are no "click here" or "read more" anchors.
- Image alternatives — Alt text describes what each photograph actually shows. No important information is conveyed by image alone.
- Tap targets — Interactive controls are sized for comfortable touch use.
- Text resizing — Layouts use relative units and reflow without loss of content up to 200% zoom.
How it has been tested
- Keyboard-only navigation through every page type and every interactive component.
- Automated accessibility checks across representative pages of each type.
- Heading hierarchy and landmark structure verified programmatically across the whole site.
- Layout checked at desktop, tablet and mobile breakpoints for horizontal overflow.
- Colour contrast checked against the palette used site-wide.
Known limitations
We would rather list these than claim a perfect record.
- Product photography is decorative in card layouts, where the product name adjacent to the image carries the information.
- The specification table on product pages scrolls horizontally on narrow screens. It is keyboard-scrollable and the content is also described in the page text.
- We have not carried out testing with every combination of assistive technology and browser. If you use one that does not work well here, we would like to know.
What we deliberately avoid
- Carousels that hide content or move without user action.
- Modal popups on page load.
- Countdown timers and artificial urgency.
- Auto-playing video or audio.
- Content that depends on hover alone to be reachable.
- ARIA attributes where native HTML does the job correctly.
