Peptide Box Inserts and Protection

The box does not protect the vial. The insert does. A perfectly built carton with a loose vial inside it will deliver chipped glass and scuffed labels, while a plain carton with a correctly cut insert will not.

Three technologies, three cost points

  • Die-cut paperboardHolds by geometry. Cheapest, recyclable with the carton, ships flat. Locates the vial but does not absorb impact.
  • EVA foamHolds by interference fit. Absorbs energy in a drop, tolerates repeated removal, costs several times paperboard.
  • Formed trayHolds by moulded pocket. Identical every time, machine-loadable, but carries vial-specific tooling costs.

The question that decides it

Almost every insert decision comes down to one thing: does this box travel on its own, or inside something else?

  • Inside an outer caseThe case absorbs impact. The insert only has to locate the vial, so paperboard is usually sufficient.
  • Posted on its ownThe insert is the only impact protection there is. Foam becomes the sensible specification.
  • Displayed or shown through a windowConsistency matters more than cushioning, so a formed tray wins.
  • Opened and reclosed repeatedlyPaperboard holes widen with use. Foam does not.

What good insert design looks like

  • Retained without the lidThe vial should stay put when the open box is inverted.
  • Removable without toolsA finger relief beside the cavity, so users are not prying vials out.
  • No glass-on-glass contactA physical wall between adjacent vials, not just spacing.
  • Cavity depth matched to weightHeavier vials need support over more of their height.
  • Confirmed on a real vialEvery design is fit-tested before production, not approved from a drawing.

Where every vial must sit at an identical height rather than merely be held, a formed tray is the only insert that guarantees it.

Peptide Box Inserts: common questions

Do I really need an insert?

For a glass vial, yes. Without one the vial slides and rotates inside the box, which chips glass, scuffs labels and can loosen crimp seals. Void fill is a poor substitute because it moves too.

Is foam always the safest choice?

It is the most protective, but it is frequently unnecessary. A light vial travelling inside an outer shipping case is well served by a die-cut paperboard platform at a fraction of the cost.

Can an insert be fully recyclable?

A paperboard insert goes into the same stream as the carton, provided it is uncoated or aqueous-coated. Foam and plastic trays do not, and need separating. Moulded pulp is a formed tray that does recycle with paper.

What is the cheapest insert that actually works?

A folded paperboard platform with a punched hole and relief tabs, for a light vial in a cased pack. It ships flat with the carton and recycles with it.

Why do formed trays cost more on a first order?

Because the tooling cost is fixed regardless of quantity. Across a large run it becomes negligible; on a short first run it can dominate the unit price.

Can one insert hold different components?

Yes. A single foam block can carry a round vial cavity, a syringe channel and an ampoule cradle, each cut to its own component. Send us all of them.
