What a 2ml vial actually needs from its box
Typical 2ml serum vials sit close to 16 mm across the body and 35 mm to the top of the cap, though moulded and tubing vials from different suppliers vary by a millimetre or so. At that size, a cavity cut 2 mm too wide lets the vial rock; a cavity cut 1 mm too tight forces the packer to press the vial in, which risks the crimp seal.
The practical target is a cavity that accepts the vial with light finger pressure and holds it when the box is inverted. We prototype that fit before tooling, because it is far cheaper to adjust a die line than to reprint a run of cartons that do not hold their contents.
- Cavity clearance — Usually a few tenths of a millimetre around the body diameter, adjusted for the insert material — foam compresses, paperboard does not.
- Cap clearance — The flip cap is the widest point on many 2ml vials, so headspace is set from cap height, not vial body height.
- Vertical restraint — Short vials tip more easily than tall ones. A lid that lightly contacts the cap stops rotation without loading the seal.
Where 2ml packaging is normally used
This size is common where a small reconstituted volume is enough for the intended use, or where a supplier wants to break a larger batch into individually presented units.
- Single-unit retail and sample packs — One vial per carton, often with a small folded leaflet tucked behind the insert.
- Two- and five-count sets — Short vials line up efficiently in a row, so multi-count 2ml cartons stay compact and post cheaply.
- Research and laboratory supply — Batch-coded cartons where the printed panel needs space for lot, reference and storage information.
- Private-label wellness brands — Presentation-led boxes where the vial is visible on opening rather than buried in filler.

Dimensions and customisation
Everything is made to order, so there is no fixed size list. The dimensions below are the ones customers most often land on for 2ml formats, and they are a useful starting point rather than a catalogue.
- Single 2ml vial carton — Commonly around 25 × 25 × 55 mm internal, depending on insert thickness.
- Two-vial carton — Commonly around 45 × 25 × 55 mm internal with a centre divider or twin-cavity insert.
- Five-vial carton — Commonly around 95 × 25 × 55 mm internal, or 55 × 50 × 55 mm for a two-row layout.
- Rigid presentation box — Sized from the tray outward; the tray flange usually adds 6–10 mm on each axis.

Material options at this scale
Small cartons are stiffer than large ones at the same board weight, so 2ml boxes can often use a lighter caliper than you would expect without feeling flimsy.
- SBS paperboard — The usual choice. A bright, clay-coated white surface that holds fine detail — important when type has to be small.
- Kraft paperboard — Uncoated brown board for a natural look. Print contrast is lower, so reserve it for bolder, simpler artwork.
- Rigid chipboard — Wrapped greyboard for presentation boxes. Adds noticeable weight and cost, and suits gift-style or premium units.
- Recyclable paper-based stock — Paper substrates that go into standard kerbside paper streams once any non-paper insert is removed.

Insert and protection options
The insert does the real work in a 2ml box. Three approaches cover almost every 2ml project.
- Die-cut paperboard — A folded platform with a punched hole that grips the vial shoulder. Cheapest, fully recyclable, and adequate for retail handling.
- EVA foam — A milled cavity that grips the whole vial body. Best when the pack will be posted on its own or when presentation matters.
- Moulded or blister tray — A vacuum-formed pocket per vial. Chosen when vials need to be visible, individually seated, or held in a fixed orientation.

Printing on small panels
A 2ml carton gives you very little surface area, and a lot of it is taken up by folds. Printing decisions matter more here than on any other size we produce.
- CMYK process — Full-colour photographic and gradient artwork across all panels.
- PMS spot colour — Recommended when a brand colour must stay consistent across repeat runs; small panels make shifts obvious.
- One-colour printing — Cost-effective for clinical, text-led designs where the board colour is the background.
- Inside printing — Possible, though on a carton this size the inside is barely seen; consider a printed insert instead.

Finishing that suits a miniature carton
Heavy finishing effects can overwhelm a small box. The finishes below scale down well.
- Matte lamination — Reduces glare and makes small text easier to read under retail lighting.
- Gloss lamination — Lifts colour saturation; useful when the artwork is image-led.
- Soft-touch coating — A velvety surface that reads as premium in the hand — noticeable even on a small pack.
- Spot UV — Best confined to a logo or a single graphic element; fine detail can fill in at this scale.
- Foil stamping — Effective on a logo or rule. Very small foil type can lose definition, so we advise on minimum stroke width.
- Embossing and debossing — Possible, though a shallow deboss usually reads better than an emboss on a narrow panel.
Structural styles that work at 2ml
Not every structure is sensible at this size. These are the ones we build most often.

- Reverse tuck end — Same economics, with flaps opening from opposite panels — slightly better for one-handed opening.
- Sleeve and tray — A printed sleeve over a rigid tray, giving a slower, more deliberate opening action.
- Rigid magnetic lid — Reserved for premium single-unit presentation, where the box is part of the product experience.
How ordering works
The path from enquiry to delivery is the same for every size, but for 2ml we usually insist on a physical fit check before production.
- 1. Share your vial — Send measurements, a supplier drawing, or post us a sample vial. A sample is always the most reliable input.
- 2. Structure and quote — We propose a structure, insert and material combination and quote against your quantity.
- 3. Die line and proof — You receive a flat die line to lay artwork onto, followed by a digital proof for sign-off.
- 4. Physical sample — A plain or printed sample is produced so you can seat a real vial in the real cavity.
- 5. Production and dispatch — The run is printed, cut, glued and packed flat for shipment.

Artwork guidance for 2ml boxes
- Work on the die line we supply — panel sizes on a small carton are unforgiving.
- Extend background colour at least 3 mm beyond the trim on every edge.
- Keep essential text and barcodes 3–4 mm clear of folds and creases.
- Supply artwork as print-ready PDF with fonts outlined and images at 300 dpi at final size.
- Use CMYK for process colour and name any spot colours explicitly rather than converting them.
Barcodes on a 2ml panel need care: reducing a symbol below its recommended magnification causes scan failures that only appear at retail. We flag this at proofing.
Quality control
Every 2ml order is checked against the approved proof and the approved physical sample, not just the artwork file.
- Colour is checked against the signed proof or supplied PMS reference at intervals through the run.
- Cut and crease positions are verified against the die line to keep panels square.
- Insert cavities are fit-tested with a sample vial from the same batch of tooling.
- Glue seams are pull-checked so cartons do not open in transit.
- Counts are verified at packing so the delivered quantity matches the order.
Packing and shipping your cartons
Folding cartons ship flat and are assembled by you or your co-packer. Rigid boxes ship assembled and take more volume.
- Flat cartons are bundled, banded and packed into corrugated outer cases.
- Inserts are supplied flat or pre-assembled, depending on the structure you choose.
- Rigid boxes are nested with protective layers between them.
- Shipments go to a business or residential address anywhere in the United States.
If the finished 2ml packs will be posted individually or need temperature protection in transit, pair them with a purpose-built outer shipping carton for temperature-sensitive packages rather than a generic mailer.

2ml Peptide Vial Boxes: questions we are asked
Will a 2ml box hold the vial if the parcel is turned upside down?
That is the standard we design to. The cavity is cut so the vial is retained by friction at the body or shoulder, and the lid or top flap provides a light secondary stop. We confirm it on a physical sample with your actual vial before the run is printed.
Can one box design fit both 2ml and 3ml vials?
Sometimes, if the two vials share a body diameter and differ only in height. Where the diameters differ, a single cavity ends up too loose for one and too tight for the other. If you genuinely need both, we usually recommend a common outer carton with two different inserts.
What is the smallest carton you can produce for a single 2ml vial?
In practice the vial plus a workable insert sets the floor, which lands most single-vial 2ml cartons somewhere around 25 × 25 × 55 mm internally. Going much below that leaves no room for the insert to grip and makes the carton awkward to assemble by hand.
How small can text be printed on a 2ml carton?
Legibility depends on the typeface, the colour contrast and the coating, so we advise on your specific artwork rather than quoting a single number. Solid dark text on a light background survives reduction far better than light text reversed out of a dark panel.
Do you supply the vials as well?
No. Peptides Boxes supplies empty packaging, inserts and labels only. Vials, closures and anything that goes inside them are sourced by you.
Can I have a window so the vial is visible?
Yes, either as a die-cut opening with a clear film patch or as an open die-cut with the vial seated behind it. A film patch keeps dust out and is the more common choice; see window peptide boxes for how the patch is applied.
What happens if I change vial supplier later?
Send us a sample of the new vial. If the body diameter is unchanged, the existing outer carton usually still works and only the insert tooling needs adjusting, which is the cheaper half of the job.
Is a foam insert overkill for something this small?
Often, yes. For a boxed unit that travels inside a larger shipper, die-cut paperboard is usually sufficient. Foam earns its cost when the individual box is posted on its own or when the opening experience is part of the product.
Can you print storage or handling text on the carton?
We print whatever text you supply and approve. Deciding which statements, warnings and symbols are required for your product and market is your responsibility — we do not review artwork for regulatory compliance.
Do you offer low minimum orders?
Yes, we quote low minimums so that new brands and short pilot runs are practical. The exact figure depends on the structure, material and finishing you choose, so it is confirmed with your quote.
