Packaging for light exclusion
When a customer specifies that a product must be protected from light, the packaging can contribute in specific, measurable ways — and it is worth being precise about what those are rather than making a general claim.
- Opaque board — A carton with no window and sufficient caliper blocks visible light when closed.
- Avoiding windows entirely — The most common decision; a window defeats the purpose of an opaque carton.
- Dark inside surface — An inside-printed dark panel reduces internal reflection.
- Full closure — A carton with tucked or glued flaps rather than an open tray.
- Secondary carton — An outer carton adds a second barrier for transit and storage.
What we will not do is state that a carton provides a specific level of light protection for your product. That depends on the vial itself, the storage conditions and your own testing.
Two-component packs
A powder vial and a solvent vial are rarely the same size, which makes a symmetrical insert the wrong answer.
- Independent cavity sizing — Each vial cut to its own diameter and height rather than to a compromise.
- Dividing wall — Board or foam between the two so the glass cannot make contact.
- Depth staggering — Cavities set at different depths so both vials finish level at the top.
- Position marking — Printed labels or numbers so the two are not confused.
- Optional syringe channel — Where the pack also carries a transfer or reconstitution device.

Formats we build
- Single-vial carton — One powder vial, die-cut insert, opaque board.
- Powder plus solvent pair — Two cavities, dividing wall, printed positions.
- Three- and five-count sets — Matched vials supplied together, in a partitioned carton.
- Clinic multi-packs — Ten-count cartons for practitioner supply, usually plain and over-labelled.

Materials
- SBS paperboard — The standard; at a sufficient caliper it is fully opaque.
- Kraft paperboard — Naturally opaque and lower cost, with limited print contrast.
- Rigid chipboard — For presentation packs; the greyboard core is entirely opaque.
- Metallised or foil-lined board — Where an additional barrier is specified by your own requirements.
- Recyclable paper-based stock — Available where no metallised layer is used.
Opacity is a function of caliper and coating rather than colour, and a light-coloured board can be entirely opaque — see the board grade reference.
Inserts
- Two-cavity die-cut platform — The economical option for a paired pack.
- Two-cavity foam block — More protective, and easier when the two vials differ significantly.
- Folded partition — A simple board wall creating two isolated cells.
- Formed tray — Where the two components must sit at controlled heights.
Printing and finishing
- CMYK process — For full-colour clinical or aesthetic-market artwork.
- PMS spot colour — For consistent brand colour, particularly on solid backgrounds.
- Inside printing — A dark inner panel reduces internal reflection and can carry position labels.
- Matte lamination — Reduces glare; also accepts applied labels reliably.
- Spot UV and foil — Used sparingly, usually confined to a logo.
Vial labels for paired packs
- Visually distinct labels — The powder and solvent labels should be immediately distinguishable at a glance.
- Consistent brand, different colour block — The usual solution — same design, clearly different accent.
- Variable data — Batch and lot fields printed per unit.
- Moisture resistance — For vials that may be refrigerated and handled with damp hands.
Ordering
- 1. Send both vials — The powder vial and the solvent vial, plus any device that shares the pack.
- 2. State any light requirement — Tell us if opacity is a specification, and we will keep windows out of the design.
- 3. Structure and insert — Specified against the two components and the count.
- 4. Die line, proof, sample — A loaded sample with both vials seated.
- 5. Production — Printed, cut, glued and packed flat, with inserts supplied to match.
Artwork responsibility
- We print what you supply and approve; we do not author packaging content.
- We do not review artwork for regulatory compliance or required statements.
- Our checks cover production issues only.
- Determining what your packaging must show is your responsibility.
Quality control
- Both cavities are fit-tested with their actual vials, not with one representative sample.
- Wall thickness between cavities is verified.
- Cartons are checked for full closure with no light gaps at the flaps where opacity is specified.
- Colour is checked against the approved proof.
- Loaded samples are inverted and shaken.

Glutathione Vial Boxes: questions we are asked
Do you sell glutathione?
No. We are a packaging manufacturer. Every order contains empty cartons, inserts, trays or labels and nothing else.
Does an opaque carton protect the contents from light?
A closed carton in an opaque board with no window blocks visible light reaching the vial while it is inside. Whether that is sufficient for your product depends on the vial itself, the storage conditions and your own testing — which is why we describe what the packaging does rather than what it achieves for your formulation.
Why do the powder and solvent cavities need to be different?
Because the two vials are usually different sizes. A single cavity dimension that suits one will leave the other loose, and a loose vial in a paired pack is the one that gets damaged.
Can I have a window on an opaque carton?
You can have one, but it defeats the purpose. If light exclusion is a specification, we will advise against a window and design the pack without one.
What is metallised or foil-lined board?
Board with a metallised layer that adds a barrier beyond what paper alone provides. It is specified where a customer's own requirements call for it. It also complicates recycling, so we will tell you what the trade-off is.
How do you stop the two vials being confused?
Printed position labels on the insert or inner panel, plus visually distinct vial labels. Relying on the vials looking different is not enough — they usually do not.
Can you supply a syringe position in the same pack?
Yes. A channel alongside the two cavities is straightforward. Send the actual device so the channel is cut to it.
Will your packaging make my product compliant?
No. Packaging does not create compliance. What your product requires, and whether it may lawfully be supplied, are matters for you and your regulatory advisers.
Can these cartons be recycled?
A paperboard carton with a paperboard insert and an aqueous coating goes into a standard paper stream. Adding a metallised layer or a plastic lamination changes that, and we will say so explicitly rather than describing the pack as recyclable regardless.
Do you produce cartons and labels together?
Yes, and for paired packs it is particularly worthwhile — the two labels need to be clearly distinguishable while still reading as one product.
