Custom Window Peptide Boxes

A window lets a buyer confirm what is inside before they open anything. On a shelf, that removes a moment of doubt. In a warehouse, it lets someone check a pack without breaking a seal.

The trade-off is structural. Every window is board you have removed from a panel, and board is what makes the box rigid. Where the window goes matters as much as how big it is.

How a window is made

The opening is cut by the same die that cuts the carton. A clear film patch is then applied to the inside of the panel, glued around the opening edge, before the carton is folded and glued.

Film choice matters more than it appears. Standard PET is clear and cheap. Anti-scratch films resist handling marks on retail shelves. Recycled and paper-based alternatives exist but reduce clarity, so we will show you samples rather than describe them.

  • Film patchApplied inside the panel; the glue line sits behind the printed border around the opening.
  • Open die-cutNo film at all. Cheaper and fully recyclable, but leaves the contents exposed to dust.
  • Film thicknessHeavier films stay flatter across large openings; thin films can ripple.
  • Border allowanceA printed border of a few millimetres around the opening hides the glue line.

Where to put the window

This is the decision that separates a window box that survives shipping from one that arrives crushed.

  • Away from cornersCorners carry the load in a drop. A window that reaches a corner removes the board doing that work.
  • Centred on the panelLeaves a continuous frame of board around the opening, which acts as a structural ring.
  • Not on the load-bearing faceOn a box stacked upright, keep the window off the top and bottom panels.
  • Sized to the contentsA window slightly smaller than the vial row looks deliberate; one slightly larger looks like a mistake.

What the customer actually sees

A window only works if what is behind it is worth seeing, which is why insert choice is part of the window decision.

  • Moulded trayHolds every vial at the same height and angle. The best partner for a window.
  • Foam with a flush surfaceA clean, dark background that makes vial labels stand out.
  • Die-cut platformAdequate, though vial heights can vary slightly, which shows through a window.
  • No insertNever, on a window box. A vial leaning against the film is immediately visible.

Window shapes

  • RectangularThe default. Cheapest to die-cut and structurally the most predictable.
  • Rounded rectangleSofter, and slightly stronger, because rounded corners resist tearing better than sharp ones.
  • Shaped or logo windowA die-cut in a brand shape. Effective, but check the tearing risk on tight internal angles.
  • Full-panel windowAlmost the entire face in film. Striking, and structurally the weakest option.
  • Side windowA narrow window on the side panel, showing the vial row in profile.

Materials and structures

  • SBS paperboard cartonThe usual host for a window; clean white board frames the opening well.
  • Rigid box lidA window cut through greyboard and wrap. The edge finish matters and is checked on sample.
  • SleeveA window in the sleeve of a sleeve-and-tray box, showing the tray behind it.
  • E-flute corrugatedPossible, though the cut edge shows the flute structure.
  • Kraft boardA strong contrast between brown board and a clear window.

Printing around a window

  • CMYK processFull-colour artwork on the remaining panel area.
  • PMS spot colourA solid border colour around the opening keeps the window edge crisp.
  • Print-to-die registrationThe critical variable on window work — the printed border must align with the cut.
  • Inside printingVisible through the window on the opposite inner panel; occasionally used as a backdrop.

Finishing

  • Matte laminationContrasts well with the gloss of the film, making the window read as intentional.
  • Gloss laminationBlends with the film so the whole face reads as one surface.
  • Spot UV around the openingA gloss frame that echoes the window.
  • Foil borderA metallic frame around the opening; effective on premium retail packs.
  • Aqueous coatingWhere a laminate film would complicate recycling.

Ordering a window box

  • 1. Structure firstA window is added to a structure, so choose the box before the window.
  • 2. Window position and sizeWe will flag any placement that weakens a corner or a load-bearing face.
  • 3. Film choiceStandard, anti-scratch or open die-cut; we send samples.
  • 4. SampleA loaded sample shows exactly what the customer will see through the opening.
  • 5. ProductionPrinted, laminated, die-cut, film patched, glued and packed flat.

Artwork guidance

  • Allow a printed border of at least 3 mm around the opening to hide the film glue line.
  • Do not place small type immediately beside the cut — registration tolerance will make spacing look uneven.
  • Mark the window as a separate die layer in your artwork file, not as a white shape.
  • Check what is directly behind the window on the opposite inner panel.
  • Artwork arrives as print-ready PDF with 3 mm bleed, outlined type and 300 dpi links.

Quality control

  • Print-to-die registration is checked continuously; a shifted border is the classic window box defect.
  • Film adhesion is peel-tested around the full opening perimeter.
  • Film clarity is inspected for scratches and haze picked up during production.
  • Loaded samples are checked so no vial leans against the film.
  • Cartons are erected and checked for square, since a window panel flexes more.

Shipping window boxes

  • Window panels are the weakest face — outer cases are packed so windows do not bear on each other.
  • Flat-packed cartons ship with the film already applied.
  • Film can mark against rough surfaces, so interleaving is used where needed.

Window Peptide Boxes: questions we are asked

Does a window weaken the box?

Yes, unavoidably — you have removed board from a panel. How much it matters depends on placement. A centred window with a continuous board frame around it has little practical effect; a window reaching into a corner has a large one.

Is the film recyclable?

A PET film patch is a different material from the board, so the two need separating for clean paper recycling. An open die-cut with no film avoids the issue entirely, at the cost of leaving the contents exposed.

Can I have a window on a rigid box?

Yes. The opening is cut through both the greyboard and the wrap, and the cut edge is visible, so we always show it on a sample first.

What is the biggest window I can have?

Technically most of a panel. Practically, we would advise leaving a continuous board frame of at least 10–15 mm around the opening on any box that will be shipped rather than hand-carried.

Why does the printed border around my window look uneven?

Because print and die-cutting are separate operations with their own tolerances. A border of at least 3 mm absorbs normal variation; a 1 mm border makes every fraction of a millimetre visible.

Can the window be a custom shape?

Yes, though tight internal angles concentrate stress and can start a tear. Rounded corners on a shaped window are both stronger and easier to die-cut cleanly.

Will the vials be visible clearly, or will there be glare?

Standard PET film is very clear. Under strong retail lighting there is some reflection; an anti-glare or anti-scratch film reduces it, and a matte laminated board around the opening helps too.

Do I need a special insert for a window box?

You need one that holds every vial at the same height and angle, because inconsistency is immediately visible through the opening. A moulded tray or a flush foam surface both do this; a loose vial does not.

Can a window box still be tamper-evident?

Yes, through a seal label, a tear strip or a shrink band. The window itself is not a tamper feature. Whether tamper evidence is required for your product is your decision.

Do you supply the vials shown through the window?

No. We produce the box, the film patch, the insert and any labels. The vials and their contents are yours.
