A vial label carries more information per square centimetre than anything else in a packaging project, and it has to survive conditions that would destroy most printed items: condensation, refrigeration, alcohol wipes and repeated handling.
Getting one right is mostly a matter of three decisions — facestock, adhesive and layout scale — made before the design work starts rather than after.

The three decisions that matter
- Facestock — Determines moisture behaviour. A film label is waterproof; a paper one is not, regardless of what is printed on it.
- Adhesive — Determines whether the label stays attached. The critical variable is the vial temperature at the moment of application, not the storage temperature afterwards.
- Layout scale — Determines legibility. A design that works on screen at 400% frequently fails at 22 mm tall.

Where small labels usually go wrong
- Label wraps onto the shoulder — The curve lifts the edges. The usable height is the straight body section only.
- Barcode reduced too far — Below its minimum magnification the code fails to scan, and the problem only appears at point of use.
- Adhesive applied to a cold vial — A standard permanent adhesive may never bond properly. A cold-temperature grade is needed.
- Batch field too small to write in — A common oversight when the field is designed on screen rather than tested with a pen.
- No overlaminate on a handled vial — Ink alone rubs off. A laminate or varnish is what makes print survive.

Roll or sheet
- Roll — Required for automated application, and more economical at volume. Core size and winding direction must match your applicator.
- Sheet — Practical for short runs, small batches and hand application in a laboratory setting.
- Mixed supply — Some customers take rolls for production and sheets for sampling and internal use.
Roll format has to match your applicator, and it is worth confirming core size and winding direction at the quote stage rather than after production.
Peptide Vial Labels: common questions
What material should a vial label be?
A film — BOPP or PET — for anything that will be refrigerated or handled with damp hands. Paper labels wrinkle and delaminate in moisture, and no amount of printing changes that.
Do labels need an overlaminate?
If the vial will be handled repeatedly, wiped with alcohol or exposed to oils, yes. Ink on its own abrades. A clear laminate or UV varnish is inexpensive relative to the failure it prevents.
Can labels carry batch and expiry information?
Yes, either as blank printed fields for you to complete or as variable data printed during label production. Variable data avoids a second operation at your facility.
Do labels make a product compliant?
No. A label is a printed component. What your labelling must contain, and whether your product may lawfully be supplied, are matters for you and your regulatory advisers. We do not review label content.
Can labels be removed cleanly?
With a removable adhesive, yes — it peels from glass without residue. It is intended for temporary identification, not for labels that must stay attached for the life of the product.
Can you match labels to our cartons?
Yes, and producing both together is the reliable way to do it. Different substrates reproduce colour differently, so a spot colour reference and a physical sample are both worth having.
